Hi Sherryl,

I think even though Gravatar’s are so simple to create, many blog readers still dont know what they are.
I’ve had quite a few people contact me and say, “how do I get my picture to show up like all the other people here.”
I’d love to install some sort of widget that automatically ended every post with, “want your picture to show up with your comment? ~ go here…”

I zipped over to your blog tonight and you’ve got some great content there!

Hi Rob,

Hey I totally understand having your photo up on the internet is a pretty big step if you’re a private person.
But as you’ve said, the connection becomes more genuine once you can see that you’re actually talking to a real person.
There is a lot of mistrust on the internet and rightly so!
A gravatar is just one small step we can take to show that there is a human on the other side of the text!
Now I’m totally curious to know if you created a gravatar after reading this post?

Hi MichaelÃ©,

It was pretty easy to create a Gravatar and even though I was pretty reluctant to do it, (I’m fairly private and I am usually talking to the guy with sunglasses at the party) so the lack of a real picture or a cartoon picture doesn’t bother me personally.
And in some cases, I kinda like it if it is a demonstration of creativity. I understand that most need to see the person on the other end of the computer to feel connected to them and begin communicating in a real and genuine way. So photo gravatars it is! Thanks for a helpful and very good post on this important topic. – Rob

Yes, a bit of a moving target but the general principles are the same. I’ll keep you in the loop when the book is ready. Sooner than later is the plan. BTW, I referenced this post in another blog and it eventually got retweeted on Twitter.

This is insightful. I never thought of it being beneficial. I thought people would take your blog less seriously with gravatar. Thanks for sharing and I will have to look into getting one.
